2. Add a layer of True Organic® Potting Mix to the bottom of the container.

3. Place the plant in the center and fill around the root ball with potting mix, pressing gently to remove air pockets.

4. Water thoroughly until water flows from the drainage holes.

5. Place in appropriate light for your plant species and allow top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

Outdoor Containers & Raised Beds

6. Fill your container or raised bed with True Organic® Potting Mix, leaving 1-2 inches from the top.

7. For transplants, dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball and place the plant at the same depth it was in its original container.

8. Firm the soil gently around the base of the plant.

9. Water deeply after planting to settle the soil.

10. Add a thin layer of mulch on top to help retain moisture in outdoor containers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best potting soil for indoor plants?

The best potting soil for indoor plants provides balanced water retention and drainage, contains organic nutrients to feed plants over time, and is free from synthetic chemicals. True Organic® Indoor & Outdoor Potting Mix checks all these boxes and is OMRI Listed® for organic gardening, making it an excellent choice for houseplants of all types.

Can I use indoor potting mix for outdoor container gardens?

Yes. True Organic® Indoor & Outdoor Potting Mix is formulated to perform well in both settings. Indoors, it provides consistent moisture for houseplants. Outdoors, it offers the drainage and nutrient retention that container vegetables, herbs, and flowers need to thrive.

Does this potting mix attract bugs?

True Organic® Potting Mix is made with quality organic ingredients that are less likely to harbor pests than low-quality soils. To further reduce the chance of fungus gnats or other insects, avoid overwatering and ensure your containers have proper drainage. Allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings is the best prevention.

How often should I replace potting soil in containers?

Potting soil should be refreshed every 12-18 months for most houseplants and annually for outdoor containers. Over time, organic potting mix breaks down, compacts, and loses its ability to drain properly. When you notice water sitting on the surface or roots circling the pot, it’s time to repot with fresh mix.

Is this potting mix well-draining?

Yes. True Organic® Indoor & Outdoor Potting Mix is formulated for excellent drainage while maintaining enough moisture retention for healthy roots. The blend includes [ingredients like perlite, aged bark, etc.] to create air pockets in the soil that prevent waterlogging and root rot.
