RAMY COLFER, PH.D
With more than 22 years of organic field experience, Dr. Ramy Colfer brings extensive knowledge of organic fertility management, organic pest and disease management, and organic vegetable production knowledge to the True team. He received his Ph.D. in Population Biology at UC Davis where he studied how ecological principles could be used to improve the biological control of pests in agricultural systems. He has been involved in the management of over 100,000 acres of organic leafy greens, and has previously served as Director of Agricultural Research, Pest Management and Fertility Management for Earthbound Farm.
EHSAN TOOSI, PH.D.
Ehsan leads True Organic’s efforts in bringing innovative ideas in soil health, soil biology, and soil physics. This includes nutrient management and promoting soil health as the foundation of sustainable cropping, integrated nutrient-pest management, developing and application of biostimulants, and application of analytical methods in “organic” integrity.
JUSTIN RUSSAK, PH.D.
Justin is involved in product development and formulation as True Organic’s Senior Chemist. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from UC Santa Barbara that focused on new methods of peptide bond formation and the synthesis of natural and unnatural proteins. Organic fertilizers contain proteins and amino acids, so understanding how those behave in mixtures and liquid suspensions are key to improving the stability, consistency and performance of our products here at True. Working with the production team, he assists in translating small scale experiments in the lab to large scale finished products.
MIKE MENES, PH.D.
For over 13 years, Mike has been on a mission to formulate fertilizer that makes a difference in the way we grow, consume and improve our bodies and the planet. With a Ph.D. in chemistry, he focuses on food safety and quality lab work. Mike is driven by his pursuit of technological improvements that help detect human pathogens and organic integrity — one of the reasons True Organic is a worldwide leader in organic, pathogen-free fertilizer for commercial farms and, now, home gardens.
MARGARET MCCOY, PH.D.
Based in Eastern Washington, Dr. Margaret McCoy is focused on conducting and collaborating on research trials with growers across the Pacific Northwest’s diverse cropping systems. Before completing her PhD from Washington State University in Horticultural, she learned her love for organic agriculture and science from the family farm. She enjoys working with growers to conduct on-farm trials to support industry understanding of nutrient use efficiency based on data gathered from the region.
ADNREW PEDERSEN
Andrew has worked in California agriculture for 18 years as an entomologist, pest control advisor, and agronomist. He supports our sales team, customers, and growers to better understand and use True Organic products. This includes developing crop fertility programs to help guide organic growers on appropriate products, rates, and timings. Andrew also oversees trials on organic farms to evaluate new products and improve organic production systems with existing products.

With stringent rules for separation, treatment and testing, all of our outgoing products exceed commercial industry requirements. In fact, we have earned ISO-22000 Food Safety Certification.
Bureau Veritas is the third-party certification partner that audits every part of our manufacturing methods — from facility practices to packaging. ISO-22000 sets out the requirements for what an organization needs to do to demonstrate its ability to control food safety hazards in order to ensure that the product is safe.
What does being OMRI Listed mean?
OMRI
The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting organic integrity. They determine which input products are allowed for use in organic production, handling, and processing, under the USDA National Organic Program. When you see the OMRI Listed label, it assures you that a product has met or exceeded rigorous standards for organic production.
What does the CDFA seal signify?

All True Organic products contain Registered Organic Input Materials as determined by the CDFA (California Department of Food & Agriculture). The Organic Input Material (OIM) Program registers fertilizing materials to be used in organic crop and food production. Products that are appropriate for use in organic production are verified to comply with the California Fertilizing Materials Law and Regulations and USDA National Organic Program Standards.
Investigators located throughout the state conduct routine sampling and inspections, respond to consumer complaints, and enforce the laws and regulations that govern the manufacturing and distribution of fertilizing materials in California.
