When to Apply Starter Fertilizer
Apply True Organic™ Preplant Starter Food to soil or potting mix before planting
In ground
Single seedling:
Apply 5 tbsp., work into the top 3–6” of soil and water thoroughly.
Garden bed:
Spread 1 ½ cups over 10 sq. ft., work into the top 3–6” of soil and water thoroughly.
This 4 lb. bag covers 70 sq. ft.
In containers
1. Measure True Organic™ Preplant Starter according to the chart below.
2. Thoroughly work into potting mix.
3. Gently plant the seedling or young start in the potting mix.
4. Water thoroughly.

Great plant starter
This fertilizer is natural and organic. There is no smell with this product. Really easy to use. The instructions are easy to follow. I used this on my fruit tree starters. They really seemed to love the nutrients. The root system exploded with life and growth. I also found it easy to sprinkle some on top of the soil and water it in. This doesn't cause gnats or other bugs to flock to the plant because there in no real smell before or after you add water.
Organic Starter Fertilizer
I’ve had mixed success getting my seedling plants to take off and grow, partly because I did not have a good fertilizer source other than what I use in my main garden which is too potent (a non-organic 10-10-10). This is a lower concentrate (4-4-4) and it is derived from organic means. The label is very clear and lists the sources of the nutrients. Unlike other reviewers, I didn’t think it stunk, but rather had a smell similar to other fertilizers I’ve used. Nice and dry and easy to spread and work in the soil. I’m looking forward to using this when I plant seeds this coming spring.
Great for tree and shrub babies. Easy to use.
This works fantastic on saplings and other plants. I put this on a crape myrtle that I started from another tree that I have. I've not had much luck with the new plants living very long. But if you look at my photos, you can see new growth on the baby tree that only took one dose of this product and 2 weeks later looks like a baby tree. I like that's it's a granular formula that's easy to spread by hand or by spreader machine. I scrape it into the soil around the root zone to prevent run-off. Comes in a nice strong mylar type bag to help it stay fresh and keep out moisture.
great organic fertilizer for starting small plants in soil
This is similar to their other organic fertilizers, but is meant for starting young plants in soil. I use it when migrating from my seedling starter machine to small pots (and then on to bigger pots on the deck). It did great with my flowers - they are huge bushy plants now - were just seedlings! Its made from a bunch of natural products - seabird guano - shrimp shell meal, crab shell meal, fish bone meal, poultry manure, humic acids, soy protein hydrolysate and analyzes out to 4% total nitrogen, 4% available phosphate, 4% soluble potash, 6% calcium and 1% sulphur. The one warning I will share is that it is some stinky stuff! You should be able to guess from the ingredients, but work with it outside with good ventilation. The smell dissipated quickly once it was in the soil, but the smell from the bag is strong.
Works Great.
True organic has been working well on my apple and cherry trees. I started with cherry and apple seeds and once germinated I planted them with True organic preplant fertilizer to great results. The trees seem to grow larger and faster than not using a fertilizer and I have less die off. You get healthier stronger plants which is a win win. The product is easy to use and the directions are easy to follow.
Preplant fertilizer appears to be kick starting our vegetables and vines
We plan to eat our garden produce so we started our plants with the TRUE ORGANIC Preplant Starter Fertilizer. We really don't want to be eating a lot of chemicals when we have a choice and we don't want to put a lot of chemicals on our land. Tomato, pepper, cantaloupe, watermelon, and cucumber are all in this years garden. So far it looks like they all like the fertilizer. Preplant Starter Fertilizer is a small granular form that is easy to spread in and around the planting holes. The tear open bag means you don't have to find a scissors or knife to cut it open and it is resealable so it is easy to close up tight and dry to store until ready to put in more plants.
